Weather policy
Weather policy for outdoor leagues
We rarely cancel outdoor league games due to poor weather because the spring/summer season is short and the weather in Saskatchewan is so variable. Players should dress appropriately, and individuals should consider their own personal risk tolerance when deciding whether to play.
Play Sask will make every effort to inform captains of cancellations due to extreme weather two hours before the start of the game.
Sometimes, in spite of our best intentions, the weather can turn for the worse after we decide to play. In the case of a sudden turn in the weather, Play Sask Event Coordinators can cancel play anytime if conditions worsen.
If Play Sask decides that scheduled games are on and a team chooses not to compete, it will be considered in default and subject to the Play Sask default policy.
If a game is cancelled at halftime or later, the score will be recorded as it was when it was called, and the game won't be rescheduled. If the game is cancelled before halftime, captains should confirm with each other and the coordinator that they would like to reschedule the game if possible.
We will try to reschedule cancelled games, but may not be able to due to space and time restrictions.
Rain and storm policy
Games will be cancelled only if there is standing water on the field (which can wreck the fields) or thunder and lightning. Coordinators will cancel the game if they can hear thunder or see lighting. Play cannot resume until 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or lightning is spotted.
Heat policy
Games will not be cancelled for high temperatures. Players should drink plenty of liquids and take frequent breaks, and teams are encouraged to arrange time-outs for water breaks in addition to the half-time break.
Smoke policy
Games will only be canceled if the AQHI is forecasted to be Very High—Above 10 during the game. At an AQHI of High—7-10, teams are encouraged to arrange timeouts in addition to the half-time break.
